Coming Up: Holy Text Dissections!

Sometime soon, I'm going to get a modern English version of the Bible, Koran(or howeverthefuck it's spelled), and maybe a Book of Mormon, and start dissecting them for shits and giggles, starting with the Old Testament.

Anyone have an idea what version I should get? Also, do the Muslims refer to any books other than the Koran?

I need to get my Bronze Dogma series started back up. Did a chunk of the Koran a while back.

Dang, you're stealing my ideas before I get them? Not allowed! Assuming there's different translations of the Koran (probably a safe assumption) what did you use?

I only had one entry in the series, so I don't think it's a fowl. Was using Skeptics' Annotated Koran for my source.

Er, foul. I'm hungry, and I need to cook my chicken dinner.

I too attempted to work through the Koran on my "100 Camels Times X" blog, but don't worry, it had a readership of zero. (I couldn't even reread it myself without putting myself to sleep.)

I used several translations of the Qur'an, mostly from the Internet Sacred Text Archive which is a site well worth knowing. It contains almost anything that touches on religion, including the complete works of Shakespere, all the available Roman and Greek Plays, and hidden "somewhere" a complete text of "Monty Python and the Sacred Grail."

You can get one of the most beautiful examples of the book making art and a good -- if very Westernized in the notes -- translation if you write to CAIR and ask -- I assume they are still making the offer. (Many of the translator's notes would make a Wahabist's head explode, much like the Conservative Jewish (Conservative Judaism is to the left of Orthodoxy) translation that included a preface telling the truth about what archaeology has shown about the Historical basis of the Old Testament *ahem* slightly disturbed the Orthodox and would have been more annoying to Christian Fundamentalists.)

Wish you luck if you get back to doing this for all three sacred texts.

It's pretty much discontinued.
