Book: The Makings Of A Plot.

OMFG, a plot! It's amazing!

Okay, for the purposes of my plot, I'm going to move the implantation thingy forward a bit. It'll happen after the start.

Basically, the book starts out with your standard Messiah, complete with Orphan's Plot Trinket and prophecy. It follows around a random friend/servant of said Messiah who's slightly jealous of the Messiah's Messiah-ness as they help a group participating in guerrilla warfare against the Sculi. It's implied during a couple of raids that the Messiah has a bit more Dark in him than he'd like to admit.

After a couple of raids, the servant/friend gets approached by a representative of a Cani leader who supports liberation from the Sculi. Said leader wants the Messiah to test the Totems. Servant wrestles with himself a bit over whether to use the totem himself, since that would give him the power he's been jealous of, or give it to the Messiah because he thinks said Messiah could help more people. He decides to give it to the Messiah... and the Messiah has a Super Power Meltdown where he ends up charging the enemy encampment and turning it into a wasteland while dying from his powers hitting himself.

Cue Heroic BSOD followed by Quest For The Truth to figure out why the Messiah went batshit.
